Post Sun Skin Essentials
We all know that the sun can take a real hit on our skin. Wearing SPF50 is the best way to keep your skin protected and to keep ageing obey for a little longer however perfecting your post sun exposure routine can also be a real skin saviour. After a day in the sun our skin needs some extra attention and this doesn’t mean a 7 step long routine but just a damn good cream that’s going to re-hydrate, nourish and soothe and for me, some cooling gels, resurfacing masks and a luxurious oil…
As I near the fifth month of travelling, I can confidently say that my evening skincare routine has been perfected. Before we get into the products, lets just rewind to February when I was packing my products… With limited bag space and going on a 5 month round the world trip, I didn’t have the luxury of packing anything and everything, I had to seriously streamline which meant making sure I had a strong mix of products that each served either a multi tasking or individual purpose. As each country I’ve been to and am going to has temperatures of over 30 degrees, my routine needs to be immensely hydrating, brightening and soothing to ensure my skin remains healthy and luminous. The following products have been absolute hero’s on this trip and are now solid staples in my travel beauty routine. Each pack a punch in a different way and are helping to keep my skin feeling and looking happy, despite seeing sun exposure every day.
A tube of absolute heaven that anyone who wants super glossy and sheeny looking skin should have in their skincare routine. Packed full of anti-oxidants it’s got multiple skin benefits that heal and soothe dryness, sun damage and dehydration. This is my true multi tasking hero that I’ve got out here with me, whether I’ve got dry patches on my body that need relieving of tightness or I simply want to amp up the glow for a dewy look to acting as the perfect overnight product, it’s purposes are endless.
When my skin is looking more lacklustre than usual or I’ve had longer in the sun then this rich balm from REN has been my go to overnight product. The luxurious and thick balm easily melts into the skin when massaged on, leaving a super glossy barrier. Packed full of beautiful gentle ingredients such as Almond Borage and Linseed oils that intensely nourish, Jojoba and sunflower oil to support skins natural lipid balance that over time helps to strengthen the skins protective barrier and Beta-glucan which rids all irritation, it’s become a firm favourite in my routine for when my skin needs a little extra TLC.
For masking on the go, sheet masks really are the best option and I packed a good mixture from Skin Laundry; anti-wrinkle, rejuvenating and hydrating. Soaked in a luxurious serum, these nutrient rich masks instantly drench the skin in moisture and are the perfect treat at the end of a day in the sun when you’re skin is feeling tight or dehydrated.
Similar to the sheet masks, gels are a great travel companion and the Patchology eye patches are one of my favourite ever beauty products. Again, they help provide a little luxury away from home and are the best early morning tired eye fix. Super cooling, hydrating and brightening, my eyes feel sparkly and alive in no time.
Using a resurfacing mask like this beautiful pink balm from Oskia is a great way to keep skin radiant, smoother and more refined when on holiday. The Natural Fruit Acids of Papaya and Passion Fruit used in this mask remove tired cells and relieve skin congestion to reveal more youthful and fresh skin from beneath whilst the Lactic Acid aids in the stimulation of cell regeneration which keeps skin healthy. On a plus note, it’s a great way to keep skin blemish free as added probiotics fight bacteria.
Keeping my lips soft, nourished and plump is also very important to me and this heavenly little pot of pink balm is just divine. It’s from one of my favourite skincare brands - Omorovicza - and it really is a joy to apply. The thick balm instantly smooths and gives lips a lovely soft glossy look without being at all sticky whilst providing long-lasting hydration from the hyaluronic spheres, shea butter and eucalyptus oil.
It’s a truly exotic experience when the time comes to slather this delectable oil all over my body at the end of a day on the beach. Smelling totally delicious, this really does hold the ultimate scent of Summer and makes limbs feel nourished and look glossy.
