Siargao Island Travel Guide

A visual snippet into our time on Siargao. A small tear-drop shaped island in the Philippines where we spent our last 2 weeks of our 5 month trip around Asia. These last weeks were the hardest with little money left to see us through the day and having bad news from home, but it is where we cherished each moment and ‘last’ something of our incredible trip together. We moved around accommodation to split our time up, staying in a hostel to start with and spending the last week in a house with ocean views. We stayed in General Luna which is considered the ‘tourist’ area on the island where most visitors stay and having stayed for 2 weeks, it’s very much a traveller destination and an area that thrives off its visitors. Every 50 yards you’ll stumble across a different restaurant (I can recommend Ceviche & Kinilaw for incredible fresh raw fish rice bowls, Kermit’s for the best pizza on the island and Miguel’s Taco’s for a Mexican feast) but hidden down sidetracks, you can find local delights such as grilled fish and rice, for half the price. Not quite as exciting as a deliciously doughy pizza, however that is where we went for the majority of our meals, to begin with.

If you’re feeling restless and active, then head to Cloud 9 for a surf lesson or hire a scooter and explore what the rest of Siargao has to offer - there are lagoons, beautiful beaches and spectacular coves. For swimming pool access, we spent some days at Bravo Beach Resort where you can eat delicious food and relax by the pool or on the beach, reading a book and with an ice-cold drink from the bar. I read what soon became one of my favourite ever books in Siargao - ‘Everyone Brave is Forgiven by Chris Cleave’, one that left me thinking for hours and wishing I could read it all over again without knowing what happened.

For surfers, General Luna is the perfect place to go as that is what most people spend days doing but equally, you can go and spend your days by a swimming pool or on a beach (as-long as you’re aware that they aren’t the most beautiful beaches).
