How To Get Textured Loose Waves

Despite always having my skincare and makeup routines on lock-down, I’ve always struggled with finding hair products that work for me, make a real difference or help achieve the look I’m after. Having tried endless products and not found ‘mine’, I was in hair despair and about to lose all faith, until I was introduced to IGK, Sam McKnight and OUAI. No sea-salt sprays or tacky feeling texture mists that make your hair feel full of product, welcome to your foolproof guide on sophisticated and soft loose waves. No sun, salt, sea or sand needed…

The first step to achieving naturally textured waves is in the art of towel drying. Post shower, I brush my freshly washed hair (I’m currently using Maria Nila shampoo and conditioner which is all vegan and smells divine) using a Kent Large Rubber Cushion Bristle Brush and wrap it in a towel turban for 5-10 minutes to soak up the majority of the moisture.

Once I’ve rough dried my hair, I massage in one pump of Ouai Air Dry Foam* from root to ends, scrunching from the bottom upwards. This is the perfect ‘crunch’ free mousse that speeds up drying time, enhances your hairs natural waves, softens each strand and fights frizz.

At this point, I section my hair into a middle parting and use my fingers to separate the strands, pulling the hair around my face to fall into place and then spritz all over, the secret ingredient to loose beachy waves; Ouai Wave Spray*. A fine mist that fragrances the hair with jasmine, sandalwood, musk, amber and patchouli and unveils enviable ‘bed-hair’ texture. To boost texture and waves even more, I rough dry my hair again using either my hands or a towel, keeping it in a centre parting at all times.

Now the texture and waves are in place, it’s time to hydrate and add some shine. This is when IGK Rich Kid comes into play. A sophisticated coconut oil infused gel that offers the perfect combination of hydration, hold and shine. My favourite way to use this is by rubbing a pea sized amount in the palms of my hands and smoothing it from roots to ends, focussing around the strands of hair that fall around my face and almost forming the hair into a wave. The flexibility with this product is endless, whether that’s massaging it all over or using it as a finale product to add shine and hold but however you choose to use it, hair has a ‘woke up like this’ effortless look that looks glossy and smooth.

To ensure my soft waves stay in place all day, I finish off with a light mist of Sam McKnight Lazy Girl* as I love the textured effect and extra hold that it gives to a hair style. Like all of Sam McKnights hair products, it smells absolutely divine.

For the finishing touches, I add a clip from my favourite hair accessories brand; Tortware. Cosmic Smoke Lexy Clip* and the Cora Clip in Tortoiseshell & Multi Marble are my current favourites.
