Prepping Your Skin For The Sun

With a holiday fast approaching, this week has been very much based on getting my skin ready for the sun! I love to have a pre holiday pamper and treat my skin to luxurious product that keep my skin silky soft and hydrated. With some brand favourites, new product loves and a step by step guide, here's how I get my skin beach holiday ready...

Exfoliate regularly to reveal glowing skin: It's time to bump the weekly exfoliation up a notch and start scrubbing your limbs two or three times the week before or the week you go away. Regular exfoliation not only buffs away dead skin cells to reveal radiant skin ready to be bronzed but it also helps you achieve that flawless smooth tan that lasts for weeks longer. Ensuring you have a full set of new skin cells on show before you step into the sun is key for an even tan. Using an oil infused scrub like the Sanctuary Long Lasting Moisture 4 Day Oil Scrub will exfoliate and moisturise in one, leaving you with skin that is glowing, soft and radiant right up until your holiday. It is just as important to regularly exfoliate your face as it is your body pre holiday if you want skin that looks sun kissed. To avoid any nasty chemicals or harsh scrubs I stick with my Pai Kukui and Jojoba Bead Skin Brightening Exfoliator which gently polishes my skin, de flaking any unwanted dry skin and reveals a healthy looking complexion.

Hair removal: When jetting off somewhere hot and having a beach holiday, us girls want to be free of any unwanted hair so removing the hair prior to your trip is a must. Whether you are shaving with a razor, epilating, home waxing or being waxed in a salon, it's important you have it done in advance so the skin can recover in time. I tend to get the deed done about 48 hours before exposing my body to the heat so my skin isn't going to be at all sensitive or become irritated.

Moisturise to soothe: It is just as important to take care of the skin you have attacked with razors or wax strips after as it is during. The lasting thing we want is ingrowing hairs arriving in time for the beach or any reactions. Post hair removal, slather your body in the Australian Bodycare Tea Tree Oil Body Lotion* to calm skin and nourish. Tea tree oil has so many healing properties that many of us are unaware of which make it the perfect post wax/shave skin treat. Tea tree oil prevents ingrowing hairs, stimulates the hairs to push through the skin with ease and soothe the skin of any pulling or rashes. Generously apply a layer of this all over everyday up until your go away for supple, problem free skin.

Hydrate to prepare: With our faces being exposed to the sun for a long period of time each day, making sure it has been properly prepped with both exfoliation and hydration is essential. I always amp up the moisture levels a few days before I go on holiday by slathering on hydrating creams but also using a mist both throughout the day and as my toner. This Nourish Radiance Refreshing Toning Mist is packed full of natural ingredients which balances skins pH with a light spritz.

Scrub lips to soften: To stop lips from burning or become de hydrated from the sun, get some lip prep in before you take off. Using the Lush Lip Scrub will de flake your lips and remove any loose layers of skin. Whilst on holiday, always wear a lip balm SPF throughout the day to protect and nourish your lips.

Add colour with a fake tan: What better a way to kick start your holiday with a little hint of existing colour. Applying a natural looking tan like the Xen-Tan Luminous Gold Gel will subtly bronze your limbs adding a irristeble golden sheen that glistens with luminosity. Slather on a layer of this clear gel 1 or 2 days before going away and you will be beautifully bronzed ready to top up on your sun lounger.
