A/W Beauty Updates

Autumn has officially arrived and having landed back in the UK at the beginning of October, after a 6 week trip in Croatia, my skin was in for a temperature shock. I had a couple of days to pack up and get myself back to University, which meant streamlining my beauty collection; AKA, ditching all the coral, peachy hues and barely there bases I'd been using for the past few months and adding some Autumnal shades back into my makeup bag. I'm a huge fan of creamy products and always gravitate towards anything balmy, glossy and light in consistency and this doesn't change in my A/W beauty bag (apart from the odd exception for a buttery powder highlight and eye palette), all that changes is simply colours. I get super excited about adding in warmer and deeper hues, new foundations always excite me and I can't get enough of new lip colours. Here is a mini round-up of what new products have landed in my beauty stash this week.

THE PRODUCTS

Starting thing's off with the base, I used my go-to skin perfecting product; the Laura Mercier Illuminating Tinted Moisturiser all summer as it's light, dewy and comfortable to wear in the heat but for A/W, I'm back reaching for my Becca Aqua Luminous Foundation. With a feather lightweight formula, this is the perfect foundation for girls like me who want something with a little more coverage than a tinted moisturiser but nothing too heavy duty. This is the ultimate dewy, light, fresh and healthy looking foundation, it's incredibly thin so blends into the skin seamlessly with a damp beauty sponge and gives a beautiful flawless, lit from within, 'your skin but better' finish. I'm obsessed with everything about this foundation. Whether you apply it with fingers, a sponge or a buffing brush, use a thin layer for a light coverage or build it up for a medium coverage, you are guaranteed fresh faced beauty that lasts all day and makes your skin look enviable. Pre base, I've been prepping my skin with the wonderful Glossier Priming Moisturiser; the product that adds moisture and creates a smooth, dewy canvas. The Hyaluronic Acid and Mushroom Super Hydrator plump and prep my skin, providing mega moisture and comfort for products going on top.

Dark circles and tired looking eyes has always been a problem for me so a thick but buttery and moisture rich concealer such as the Laura Mercier Secret Concealer, is an essential throughout the colder months for keeping my eyes looking awake and my dark circles concealed without masking or drying under the eye. Warmed up in my fingers, I press this under the eye before blending in with my damp beauty sponge and the creamy texture glides on, hiding any discolouration around the eye and simply lifting, brightening and giving the look of an extra few hours sleep. It's a staple in my beauty bag all year around but particularly in the colder months as my skin suffers from the cold and can look more dull and tired.

I've been reaching for two highlighters lately, one powder; Delilah Pure Light Highlighter and one very exciting cream; Glossier Haloscope. Cream highlighters are always my top choice but I can't resist the beauty of the Delilah highlight and it's rose gold packaging. Pure Light is an illuminating, soft, buttery powder that dusts over the skin so beautifully, you wouldn't know you had any powder on and that's what I love about it; it keeps skin looking healthy, enhances luminosity and brightens any dull areas whilst increasing the longevity of your base. The Glossier Haloscopes are a much more glossy, balmy highlight and look beautiful on bare skin or on top of foundation. Acting as skincare and makeup in one, these wind up sticks of pure glam are incredibly hydrating and dewy looking with a finish that looks like your skin is naturally beaming with light.

I love to use bronzer throughout the winter to keep my skin looking warm, sun-kissed and alive looking and some days will leave blush and let my naturally flushed cheeks shine through but when I do reach for a blush, this year it's going to be all about the Perricone MD No Blush, Blush*. In my eyes, this is the most natural way to add colour to your cheeks. This little pot of dewy pink fluid melts into the skin as soon as you apply it, leaving a polished yet 'no makeup, makeup' look. It's a natural pop of colour in a pot and reveals such a beautiful glow and flush to your cheeks, enhancing your natural skin tone and never masking. Lipsticks on a day to day basis are a rarity for me and I'll always opt for a tinted balm instead. The Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments* are perfect for adding colour, SPF protection, moisture and nourishment and still create a polished looking lip, a sheer coverage and something a little more than a normal un-tinted lip balm. Fig is a lovely winter shade that looks a-lot darker and more shimmery in the stick but once on the lip, it's simply an enhancement of your natural lip shade with no shimmer in sight.

An autumnal beauty product that gets me really excited is eye-shadows - earthy, warm tones made from beautiful soft pigments, packaged up in a sleek palette. You can't go wrong. Whether it's for a liquid, cream or powder product, BECCA will always be a brand I reach for, in-particularly for shadows. I've got two of their palettes; the Jaclyn Hill Champagne Eyeshadow Palette which is great for evenings and the Christmas season and the Becca Ombre Rouge Eye Palette, the perfect Autumnal palette. Featuring five seasonal tones of pale peaches, burnt ambers and rich reddish brown tones, it's ideal for day to night shadow looks that blend seamlessly together for unique looks or work beautifully on their own, blended over the lid.
